Where the focus is on the school

The goal of SBOT is to support participation in school-based activities

In school-based occupational therapy (SBOT) the focus is on the needs of the whole school or the class, rather than the individual student.

By putting strategies in place on a whole-class level, more students benefit and students with additional needs are supported in context, included and integrated in their learning environment.

The OT works in collaboration with the school team to identify the priorities and needs of the classroom and school. The OT support the school team to embed strategies into the school routine and environment.

What are universal services?

Below are examples of activities that can take place at a universal and targeted level. The OT would come into the school setting on a regular basis to work with teacher, teaching assistants, PE teachers and other school staff.
